Setting the right kind of mood for your home may be difficult, but the effort that goes into it will have been worth it when you see the end result of all your hard work. Unless you are building a Halloween-themed home with dark, looming corridors and an oppressive atmosphere, the moods you need to create in your home have to be inviting and vibrant. While it does not have to be loud, per se, enough ambiance should be created to give it some sort of character.

Part of what you can do is create a mood containing with the color of the paint on your walls, if applicable. White walls are the easiest to work with and you can plan from there. With white walls you can achieve a very vibrant mood with wall sconces or even a ceiling lamp. This can also be done with a standing floor lamp but to a limited degree. And due to the neutrality of white walls, even if the paint used is bright, you can change the light fixtures to give it a fitting neutral mood that will not be jarring, and will still provide adequate lighting for you to see your surroundings.

Colored walls are trickier, but you can still work with them. A sense of warmth can be achieved with rooms painted pink, orange, amber, or yellow. Just tweak the lighting to best fit what you want to achieve. As for achieving a cool mood, walls painted blue, purple, and green are what you need. Be careful with this latter group because these colors can clash with a person's natural complexion and will look very out of place.

As for the lighting itself, brighter lights tend to give a space a sense of cheerfulness. It is best to create this mood in children's rooms and the living room, since any guests you have will spend most of their time there. Having a living room that is cheery will end guests to the rest of the house. However, going for a relaxing atmosphere does not sound like such a bad idea. When choosing your modern light fixtures, be aware that lower levels of light will create a calmer atmosphere. And, it can be used to your advantage to create a romantic mood to a room; this is perfect for anniversaries and spending time with your significant other.

When trying to set a mood for a room, remember these points in conjunction with your modern light fixtures.
